Northern Kenya Safari – 8 Days
This 8 days itinerary takes you through extra ordinary journey with different landscapes and excellent game viewing opportunities. Experience some of the best National Parks and game viewing areas in Kenya starting with Lake Nakuru to Ol Pejeta and Samburu ending with Mount Kenya.
On arrival at the JKIA, you’ll be met and transferred to the elegantly sophisticated Eka Hotel where you’ll spend your first night. Its location offers easy access to the Jomo Kenyatta International as well as the main attractions like the Giraffe Centre and National Museum
Next stop is Lake Nakuru where thousands of pink flamingos tint the horizon. Around the lake a game reserve has been created where the endangered black rhino is protected and may be seen along with antelope, giraffes, lions and hyenas. There’s also a concentration of pink flamingo which seasonally feed on the abundant algae which thrives in the shallow warm waters. Other bird species can be found in the surrounding acacia Savannah and forests. Accommodation is at Sarova Lionhill Lodge.
From Nakuru you drive towards Mount Mont Kenya region. Located on an exclusive game conservancy, which also hosts its own chimpanzee sanctuary, cultural village and educational centre, is the Sweetwaters Tented Camp. A sheltered oasis, clustered around a water hole and set in the pristine calm of the private Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Sweetwaters Tented Camp offers a charming blend of under-canvas ambiance and safari luxury. The camp is also host to all the members of the ‘Big Five’ (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard).
Proceed to Samburu Game Reserve, a dramatic and rugged landscape which is truly rewarding. You will spend the next 2 nights at the delightful Elephant Bedroom Camp in Samburu. It is a small and exclusive camp of 12 luxury tents – all furnished in rustic African style. Herds of elephants, prides of lions or the solitary leopard amongst other animals are close by, providing excellent game viewing.
Finally your safari ends with a special overnight stay at the Mount Kenya safari club. En-route to the reserve, one encounters striking features such as the crossing of the equator in Nanyuki and the background of Mount Kenya as you travel towards the northern hemisphere. A visit to the William Holden’s lovely animal orphanage is an experience not to be missed.
