Amboseli National Park

Amboseli

Amboseli is Kenya’s most popular National Park after the Masai Mara National Reserve. Like an oasis in the dry savannah, with its emerald-green swamps beneath towering Kilimanjaro, it is the best place to see big, tusked elephants in their herds and enjoy magnificent views of the glorious Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa’s highest Mountain). The best time to view ‘Kili’ is at dawn and sunset when the clouds lift, and the light is clear and soft.

Wildlife sightings in this park include, the Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles, buffalo, hartebeest, eland and waterbuck – and the migratory Burchell’s zebra. The Park is also home to over 400 bird species including, the native rarities like Madagascar squacco heron and the Taveta Golden weaver. Water birds such as the long-toed lapwing and rufous-bellied heron are a highlight here and in most parts of the park, the tracks follow close to the waters edge allowing you great sightings of these species.
Neighboring Conservancies include the Selenkay to the North and Kitirua between Southwest and Tanzania border. You can visit Selenkay by staying at Porini Amboseli Camp and Kitirua by staying at Elewana Tortilis Camp.
