Masai Mara

Home to an abundance of nature, the Masai Mara is one of Africa’s most popular game reserves and is often featured in many wildlife documentaries. It is one part of the Greater Serengeti eco system that stretches from the Mau Escarpment above Kenya’s Rift Valley to the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. In Kenya, Masai Mara National Reserve is split into three regions divided by the Sand, Mara and Talek Rivers. Surrounding the Mara Reserve lies several community-owned wildlife conservancies. Together, they make up the Greater Masai Mara area.

Unrestricted by national park timings and providing a more exclusive experience, the private concessions allow guests to experience bush walks and night drives. These are big cat territories, with healthy populations of lion, leopard and cheetah. There are elephants, buffaloes and rhinos, completing the Big 5, plus nearly 500 recorded bird species to spot. Our private concessions are Naboisho, Mara North and Olare Orok.

Whether you choose to experience it from the basket of a balloon, the back of a horse, upon your feet or in a safari jeep, a luxury Kenyan Safari visiting the Masai Mara is not to be missed. The Masai people inhibit these areas giving you the chance to interact with them and learn more about their culture.

When to go

If you’re looking to witness the Great Migration, July to October is the best time to go. If you’re looking to spot migratory birds go between October and April. To search for the Big Five, go during the warmest time from December to March. From March to May you are likely to experience rain but it shouldn’t impact your experience and reserve has fewer visitors at this time.
